Adding a Signature Piece- Room Upgrade

You know sometimes your room is just lacking something? A big something to tie a room together or a little something to complete a look? Well, I was looking for a big something- or rather I needed a big something and I didn't even know it! I'm a big believer in eclectic decorating- finding pieces you love and making them work even though they may not actually "go" as they say.  Enter Ruby Rose. While trolling through the blog of local "junker" and Ruby Rose store owner Stephanie Hendry, I fell in L.O.V.E., with a rug in the background of a photo. I didn't know how I would use it, where exactly it would go or how I was going to make raspberry sorbet go with my tomato reds, pumpkin oranges, mustard and lemon yellows and the aqua/seafoam galore I have going on. And then I realized I didn't care and I was going to make it work, cuz I wanted it to work!

So Stephanie and I were having a casual chat when I brought it up- tiptoed up to it really.  She didn't even hesitate (she must have had more faith in my ability to find a place for it in my home than I), we struck a deal and just like that, I was the owner of an ornate raspberry sorbet rug of the best quality and perfect size!! *Cue excited jumping!

I couldn't wait to make it work!! I just knew it was would come together!!

Here's the rooms evolution from "Meh" to "Yeah!" and the little details that pull it all together!

(got to have a practical corner. :) when you're pressed for space you find your "exercise station" wherever you can)

The Little Touches Pulling It All Together:
Dried chives from my garden, gorgeous glass bud vases from the now defunct Sycamore Herb Farm in Paso.

necklace holder: Urban Outfitters

Scandalous nighttime reading and music. Lamp: Target. Lampshade, Urban Outfitters. Nightstand: free from my friends at Finder's Keepers, one man's junk is another man's treasure, I say!

whimsical touches. Owl nightlight, Urban Outfitters, Olivia Circus Tent jewelry box purchased at a toy store  many years ago

orange table, Cost Plus World Market. Large terrarium glass lidded jar: West Elm.  Blown glass ball: Earth Tones,  succulents courtesy of my friends Joy and Barbara owners of California Blonde, glass cups holding succulents: Anthropologie, metal "G" Urban Outfitters.
Rooms are ever- evolving so I'm sure this room's evolution isn't done, but I do believe I'll be happy to keep it this way for a little while longer. Stay tuned- that terrarium of my dreams is going to become a reality- photos to come!!! If you want a sneak peek of what it's going to look like click HERE

Outfit of the Day- Casual Black

At the end of a work week I like to be a bit more casual and comfortable- the thought of gussy-ing it up on Saturday does not appeal to me. Sooooo, I try to be basic but add accessories to jazz it up to make it work appropriate. OR I use Saturdays to wear uncomfortable but cute shoes, since it's my shortest day of the week. Today was all comfort- but the Starbuck's barista did say I looked "edgy" today, so it must not have looked as comfortable and casual as it felt- score 1 for me!

necklaces: Make Pie Not War and Seiler Designs (links for both below). T-shirt: Target,  Black Jeans: BDG Urban Outfitters rolled up. Shoes: Ecote from Urban Outfitters.

platform sandals from Ecote at Urban Outfitters. I got so lucky to find these guys on clearance last year for $10! Because they are essentially flat, they are quite comfortable.

hair today: ballerina bun yet again. Make Pie Not War rose gold hammered hoops (my favorite)  they can be found HERE

my necklaces from today: coin, charm and key necklace from Make Pie Not War - this is a one of a kind piece but she frequently does similar things and the no so similar things are amazing too!! check out her etsy shop HERE - support those small businesses (Alana also happens to be a doll)!!!!. The second necklace (on left) is a custom bronze disc with a crowned bird with the letter  G from Adrienne Seiler Designs. She does beautiful work and will do custom pieces. Her etsy shop can be found HERE, although she has a non-etsy site too. She's a local gal and really sweet to boot!

Outfit of the Day- Stripes and Summer

Outfit of the Day: Stripes Away!
It's feeling like summer- hotter than blue blazes in my little neck of the woods- so it was time to bust out the striped summer dress. Fridays are free dress day at work, so we get to retire the black- although with a wardrobe full of black sometimes I end up wearing black on the days I'm allowed to wear colors- anyhoo.... on to todays outfit:

Outfit in total. dress Forever 21, Cardigan JCrew,  Shoes: Urban Outfitters

Urban Outfitters shoes. love these comfortable leather peep toe flats.

Outfit with the addition of a belt. Belt: Urban Outfitters

dress without Cardi and with belt. After much hemming and hawing I decided not to wear the belt after all, but I decided to include it in the blog as an alternate way to wear it.

Outfit of the Day (er.....Night)

Outfit of the Day- well night really!
My husband and I had a little date night last night to the movies, and this is what I threw on. :)
Oh and for those wondering, we saw The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel- so funny!
Urban Outfitters infinity scarf- my favorite color in the whole wide world, so I HAD to have it! Can I also say it's sooooo soft and comfy!!!

The outfit as a whole. Urban Outfitters infinity scarf, Target long sleeved tissue tee in black, Victoria's Secret white tank peeking out, my new Citizens of Humanity Lennox jeans- like buttah,  and my free- yes free!- flip flops from Victoria's Secret.

outfit from another angle. :) the cute little accent rug in my stairwell is from Urban purchased about 4 years ago- I love it!
